SolidWorks is a "parametric" solid modeler used for 3D designs. Parametric means that the dimensions can be related to each other and can be changed at any point in the design process to automatically change the solid and any related documentation.

AutoCAD is primarily a 2D drawing tool with some limited 3D capabilities, in other words it is a computer aided design software application for 2D and 3D designs. Use basic elements like lines, polylines, circles, arcs, and text to build more complex objects. AutoCAD now supports custom objects through its C ++ Application Programming Interface (API)
